Tom Cruise's Heart-Stopping Stunt in "Mission: Impossible" That Dared Death

Tom Cruise has detailed his latest death-defying stunt undertaken For the soon-to-be-released eighth installment of the Mission: Impossible series.

The action spy franchise is adapted from the 1966 television series of the same title and features Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt, an agent for the Impossible Missions Force tasked with thwarting hostile entities and preventing worldwide catastrophes.

The first – Mission:Impossible – came out in 1966 and has subsequently been succeeded by another six installments.

Over the years Tom, 62, has undertaken countless spine-tingling stunts , including scaling the Burj Khalifa, diving without an oxygen tank and hanging onto the side of an airborne plane.

However, he’s now spoken about what might be one of the most dangerous stunts he’s ever performed.

In the latest movie, a huge water tank was built to film a submarine interior.

The tank was able to tilt and rotate 360 degrees, however it tumbled Tom and everything inside it like a front-loading washer.

But to feature the actor’s unobstructed face in a SCUBA mask, Tom breathed his own carbon dioxide.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning scene with the cliff jump

The final installment of the Mission: Impossible series, titled Dead Reckoning and launched in 2023, featured Tom facing imminent death while performing an exhilarating motorcycle jump from a cliff as part of an intense scene. This particular stunt was dubbed 'the largest ever cinematic feat' by critics.

Mission: Impossible – Fallout – the sprained ankle

During the production of Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Tom leaped between multiple tall buildings for a scene. However, in one instance, he collided with a wall and fractured his ankle. Even though he immediately realized it was broken, Tom chose not to redo the shot; instead, he stood up and continued acting before seeking medical attention at the hospital.

Cracking his ribs in Mission:Impossible 3

A standout scene from "Mission: Impossible 3" involves an assault on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge where fighter planes bombard the structure as Ethan Hunt is standing on it. During this sequence, he gets shoved against a vehicle, resulting in Tom Cruise fracturing two of his ribs performing this stunt.

'If I used a standard mask along with something for breathing in my mouth, you might not feel as closely connected to the character,' he explained. People .

'Fortunately, when you're piloting jets, you undergo training for hypoxia and carbon dioxide accumulation.'

In 2021, stunt performer Greg Powell discussed Tom was an exception to the norm. Although he usually advises against actors performing numerous dangerous stunts because of the potential hazards to themselves and the possible production hold-ups resulting from injuries,

'The point is, if he weren't an actor, he would make a great stuntman,' he said to Romero.my.id.

'Actually, he has the capability to pull this off. He's extremely cautious; he clearly understands his limits and capabilities. Observing him as he performs these tasks confirms how grounded he is. Tom is quite pragmatic – plus, he surpasses many others in terms of skill.'

‘He is an exception to the rule because there’s not too many Hollywood actors as big as him, worth as much money as him, who want to be hanging off the side of a plane or the building in Dubai – let someone else do it! But he gives the audience what they want – Tom Cruise.’

The Final Reckoning of Mission: Impossible will hit cinema screens on May 23.
