Met Office Weighs In on Bank Holiday Weather After Hottest May Start in Records

Temperatures are expected to drop by almost 10°C over the upcoming bank holiday weekend as a result. hottest beginning to May ever recorded .

The Met Office states that the bank holiday will be somewhat chilly, particularly due to the persistent winds in the eastern and southern regions.

Jonathan Vautrey, a meteorologist from the Met Office, stated: "The northerly winds will bring cooler and fresher conditions across all regions of the UK."
'That wind from the north is blowing in from the North Sea, and it will bring quite a few clouds over the eastern coastal regions of both Scotland and England.'
'So here, the temperature will be restrained considerably.'
'With the added force of that wind, it will feel significantly cooler and more chilly than we've experienced lately.'


Although south-east England anticipates relatively moderate temperatures ranging from 14°C to 15°C, north-west England is forecasted to experience cooler conditions dropping to 13°C. Meanwhile, the northeastern part is predicted to have an even colder spell at 11°C.
‘On Saturday temperatures will be around the typical average values for this time of year,’ Mr Vautrey continued.
'As we move into Sunday and Monday, they will dip slightly below average levels once more, mainly affecting the eastern part of the UK.'
Preliminary data from the Met Office indicated that the nation experienced its most luminous April since record-keeping started in 1910, marking England’s sunniest April ever documented, along with the second sunniest month for the other constituent countries of the UK.
The respite from the scorching temperatures follows intense efforts by firefighters who tackled numerous blazes earlier this week. The NFCC reported on Thursday that they have dealt with 439 wildfire incidents so far this year, up significantly from 250 during the equivalent timeframe last year, along with only 60 in 2023 and merely 44 in 2024.
